Mederma Summary
Mederma appears to not really be an acne fighting cream or treatment. It is, however, designed for treating the scars that acne can leave behind as well as scars from injuries, stretch marks and other similar skin problems. This product is a topical greaseless gel and works to smooth, soften and improve the appearance of scarring.
Mederma is very widely available and can be purchased without a doctor’s prescription at drug stores, retail stores and other stores. The price will vary depending on where you buy it, of course, but is still far less expensive than being treated for this scarring at a dermatologist or plastic surgeon’s office.
Mederma states that all scars are different. Some fade quickly, while others can take longer to show improvement. Mederma recommends applying the cream three times daily for eight weeks on newer scars and three times daily for three to six months on existing scars. They claim that in general you should “begin to see noticeable improvement after about 4 weeks.”

What We Think
While it is great to have a product like Mederma that can eliminate or at least alleviate some of the scarring that acne can leave behind, it is important to treat the acne that causes the scarring in the first place.
