Skin ID Summary
Skin ID is widely touted on the television infomercials as the best acne treatment regimen that you can find. Part of Neutrogena's line of skincare products, Skin ID first requires users to fill out an evaluation for their skin to assess the level of oil, type and location of acne and other skin issues that they may have. The three step routine includes a cleanser, a toner and a moisturizing lotion meant to soothe and heal irritated skin.
Skin ID uses the uniqueness of each person's skin to sell their product; the claim is that no two people will have the same needs, so they will not need the same skin care products. While it is true that skin is unique and individual, knowing some of the answers to these questions may be beyond the average teen. We prefer not to make our customers play dermatologist with their skin or have to guess on questions related to their acne. Skin ID does have a nicely done site, but each page you come to gives you the synopsis of the information, you must continue to navigate to get the whole story. Some claims that were made were unclear. For instance, when they mention that "it" was tested on 2,000 people, it is really hard to tell if the claim was about the product itself or the skin evaluation.1
Skin ID Pros And Cons
- Individualized care may be a better approach for acne treatment.
- Pricing is comparable to others of the same type and did not seem extreme.
- May need to have more knowledge about acne types than the average user would have.
- Unclear marketing claims and no clear scientific data to back it up.
- Site is a bit jumbled with a lot of navigation to get to one bit of information.
What We Think
Skin ID is a comparably priced, three step process that takes into account individual skin care needs. However, knowing exactly what type of acne you have may be beyond the average teenager and the three step process may be too time-consuming for some. Skin ID could do better with not only their site, but their claims as well.
